Box offers two easy ways to share files with people, each suited to different situations. If you just want to share a file with one or two people sending (A) it is ideal. If you want the file to be available a large number of people (or the public), it is better to get a link (B) to the file and post that link on your website or blog.

A. Sending (or: How do I send a file that’s too big for email?)

With Box, you can make bulky attachments and email bounces a thing of the past.

To send a file from your Box account, just right-click on the file’s icon (or click on the little blue box with the white downward arrow). A list of options will appear; select “Send File.” A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to enter the email address(es) of the individual(s) you want to send the file to. Enter their addresses, then click “Send”.

(If you would like to add a message, check the box next to “Add a message for recipient(s)” and type the message in the box that appears below).

The individuals you listed will receive an email with a link to your file.

B. Linking (or: How do I link to a file in my Box account?)

Links are a great way share a file with a large number of people (copy and paste it in a group email), or make a file accessible to readers of your blog or website (post the link).

To get a link to one of your files (i.e. a web address where others can download the file), right-click on the file’s icon (or click on the little blue box with the white downward arrow). A list of options will appear; select “Link to this file”. A pop-up window will appear with two web addresses (URLs) in it.

The first is a link to a page where an individual can download your file. The second is a direct link to the file itself (clicking on the link will start the download process immediately).
