Locating files with our 'Search' feature is a quick and convenient way of locating what you need without having to browse through all your folders.
To search for a file or folder locate the search bar shown on the upper right hand side of the 'All Files' page found below the 'Settings' option. Enter all or part of the word you are searching for and the search will return any files and folders in your account containing the entered text in their names or their descriptions. If you have a 'Business' account the search results will provide a list of files and folders containing the entered text in their name, content or description. We currently offer the full-text search functions for all office formats-doc(x), xls(x) and ppt(x)- PDF's, CSV's and Box.net 'Web Documents' files. Tip: You can filter with file type by searching for that file's extension (e.g. search for ".jpg" or ".xls").
Search Filtering
If you would like to limit search results to files only or folders only, use the Filter feature. From the column heading 'Filter By,' select either 'Folders Only' or 'Files Only' from the search result view.

Advanced Search
The search tool can also utilize advanced search criteria:
- AND- Include a space between terms to search for items containing all words. (ex. Palo Alto -will result in all items containing "Palo" and "Alto")
- OR- Include " | " between search terms to search for items containing any of the terms. (ex. Palo | Alto -will result in any item containing "Palo", "Alto" or both)
- NOT- Include "NOT" before a term to eliminate any item containing that term. (ex. Palo NOT Alto -will result in all items containing "Palo" but not "Alto")
- Phrase Search/ Exact Match- Place quotation marks around multiple terms to search for a phrase or around a single term to search for an exact match. (ex. "Palo Alto" -will result in all items that contain the phrase "Palo Alto" | "Box" - will result in all items containing "Box" but will not include extended words such as "Boxes" or "Boxing")
- Boolean/ Grouping Terms- Including parenthesis around terms will isolate search into separate groups and create compound search criteria. (ex. (Palo Alto) | (San Fransisco NOT bay) - will result in all items containing either "Palo" and "Alto" or "San" and "Fransisco" but not "bay")
