1. How do I control what items are private and what are shared?
The security of your files is a top priority at Box.net. Any files that you store will be kept secure, and will only be accessible by others if you explicitly authorize sharing. To display your content to the public, you may designate a folder to display on your profile. All files or folders in that folder will be visible to viewers of your profile. All other files and folders are kept private, although you may share specific items with select individuals.
2. How do I share content with friends or colleagues?
In order to share content with specific people, just click on the menu for a file or folder that you want to share, and select the "Send to connections" option from the menu. From there you will be able to select from your list of contacts people whom you want to share your folders and files.
3. What is the profile folder?
The profile folder allows you to share content right on your LinkedIn profile.
In order to use it, you must first designate a folder to be shown on your profile. You also need to explicitly allow Box.net Files to be displayed on your profile, by going here. Note that LinkedIn applications are only visible on your full profile, not your limited (public) profile.
4. What are collaborated folders?
Collaborated folders are folders for which you invited others to have special access rights, or for which you were invited for special access. Collaborators may have either viewing privileges, in which case they can see and download any of the content from within their own Box account, or have editing privileges, allowing for multiple individuals to work with the same content together. To learn more about collaboration folders please click here.
5. What is the difference between collaborating and sharing?
When sharing content, a user is provided a link to view and download the items that are shared. Collaboration involves more advanced interactions around folders. Users will not only be able to view the content, but will be able to organize content within their own Box accounts. Moreover, collaborators may be provided with editing rights.
Note that collaborators must have Box.net Files installed. If you just want to share a file, you may do so without requiring that the viewer have the Box.net application added.
6. What is the difference between 'My Connections' Files' and collaborated content?
The My Connections' Files helps you browse through files publicly displayed by your connections. Collaborated folders are non-public folders that others designated you to access are displayed in your Box account, in the "My Files" section. These folders are colored blue so that you know that other individuals have special access rights.
7. I just received an invitation to collaborate on a folder. How do I access it?
In order to access a collaborated folder, first go to your Box canvas page (if you do not yet have the Box.net Files application added you will be prompted to do so at this point.). There you will be notified of any collaboration invitations, and asked whether you would like to accept or reject the invitations. If you choose to accept an invitation, the folder will appear in your Box account, colored in blue.
8. May I add more than 1 GB of space to my Box account?
Yes, we offer upgrades to premium accounts for users who need more space, bandwidth, and premium features. Additional information and pricing is available here.
